Firearms are unlike most retail products — once a firearm has been transferred to you through your FFL dealer, federal law and the nature of the industry mean that returns are limited or not possible. Please read this policy carefully before ordering.
1. Firearms — Before FFL Transfer
If you have not yet completed transfer at your FFL dealer, you may cancel your order and return the firearm subject to the following:
- The firearm must be unfired, undamaged, and in original packaging with all included accessories.
- Original serial number must be present and unaltered.
- You are responsible for return shipping costs, including insured and adult-signature-required shipment back to Spirit Gun Works.
- A restocking fee of 15% of the purchase price applies to cover inspection, re-inventorying, and any dealer-transfer fees already paid.
- Refunds are issued to the original payment method within 5–10 business days of receipt and inspection.
- Notify us within 14 days of order date to initiate a pre-transfer return.
2. Firearms — After FFL Transfer
Once you have taken possession of a firearm from your FFL dealer (i.e., completed Form 4473), the firearm is legally considered a used firearm and cannot be returned to us for refund or exchange. If you have an issue with the firearm after transfer, please refer to Section 5 below (defective merchandise and manufacturer warranty).
3. Ammunition and Reloading Components
Ammunition, primers, powder, and other reloading components are non-returnable for safety reasons and federal shipping regulations. All ammunition sales are final. If you receive damaged ammunition or the wrong item, contact us within 3 days of delivery for resolution.
4. Accessories, Optics, and Non-Firearm Items
Unfired, unused, unopened accessories (holsters, magazines, cleaning supplies, optics in sealed packaging, apparel with tags attached) may be returned within 30 days of delivery for a full refund of the purchase price. You are responsible for return shipping. If the item has been opened, mounted, or installed, we may refuse the return or apply a restocking fee at our discretion.
5. Defective Merchandise & Manufacturer Warranty
All firearms and most accessories carry a warranty from the manufacturer. If you believe a product is defective:
- Contact the manufacturer first — they can typically diagnose issues and authorize repair or replacement faster than we can.
- Save all original packaging, paperwork, and receipts.
- For assistance identifying the correct manufacturer contact, reach out to us and we’ll help.
- SGW does not perform warranty work on products purchased through us unless separately arranged.
6. Gunsmithing Services and Cerakote Work
For custom services (Cerakote, trigger work, custom builds, repairs, restorations):
- Once work is begun, deposits are non-refundable except at our discretion.
- If we cannot complete the work as agreed, we will refund the portion of the deposit corresponding to unfinished work.
- Customer-supplied firearms are inspected on intake; any pre-existing conditions are documented before work begins.
- If you are unsatisfied with completed work, contact us within 7 days of pickup and we will discuss remediation.
7. Denied Background Checks (NICS Denials)
If your NICS background check is denied at the receiving FFL and you cannot legally complete the transfer:
- The firearm will be returned to us at your expense (including insured, adult-signature shipping and any return-transfer fee your FFL charges).
- Once received and inspected, we will refund the purchase price minus the 15% restocking fee, our original $30 transfer coordination fee, and any shipping and dealer fees.
8. How to Start a Return
- Email zanemitchell@spiritgunworks.com with your order number and reason for return.
- We’ll respond within 2 business days with a Return Authorization (RA) number and shipping instructions.
- Ship the item back with the RA number visible on the outside of the package. Do not ship without an RA — unauthorized returns may be refused.
- Once we receive and inspect the return, we’ll issue the refund within 5–10 business days.
9. Non-Returnable Items (Summary)
- Firearms that have been transferred to you (completed Form 4473)
- Ammunition, primers, powder, other reloading components
- Custom or personalized items (Cerakote, engraving, custom builds)
- Items marked “Final Sale” or “Clearance”
- Digital / downloadable products
- Items missing original packaging, accessories, or serial numbers
